Hilo Bike Hub - sales, service, and lots more - right in Hilo in East Hawaii

Welcome to the Hilo Bike Hub Website!

Come visit Hilo Bike Hub and help us celebrate our 25th anniversary, and see why we have been voted best bike shop on the East side of the Big Island for over 19 years (2020)!

We carry a full line of Specialized and Cannondale mountain bikes and road bikes as well as Trek hybrid, road, comfort bikes, kids bikes, and the new GT freestyle bikes. Check out our popular Trek and Specialized hybrid bikes, and Specialized electric bikes!

What differentiates Hilo Bike Hub from the rest? We understand the ruggedness of the Hawai'i Island terrain, the extreme diversity of our climate and what it does to our bicycles. The end result is building a bicycle that will meet and exceed the needs of our Big Island clientele. For example, all of our adult bikes feature a pro-build assembly complete with waterproof lubrication of front and rear hubs, bottom bracket extraction and waterproof lubrication, as well as waterproof lubrication to all bolts. Full suspension bikes also receive lubrication and proper torque to all pivot bolts and linkage systems. Most bikes require between one and two hours for such an intense assembly, valued at $120. In addition, new bike sales include pro-fitting, adjusting bikes to the rider to maximize comfort as well as performance. New bikes receive one year of free servicing.

Hilo Bike Hub is Voted "Best Bike Shop" - Mahalo!

The Hilo Bike Hub would like to extend a huge MAHALO for voting us 'Best Bike Shop' by the Tribune Herald's Annual Best of East Hawai`i for 2020! The Hilo Bike Hub staff is super grateful to our loyal clientele for acknowledging our store 20 times as the Tribune Herald's Best Bike Shop of East Hawai`i. We will continue to provide top service, knowledge, and equipment to those who demand the best.  Read more on the Tribune Herald website >

Hawai`i's first Mountain Bike Park is official!

After twenty years of trials and tribulations, the Waiākea Forest Timber Management Area (a.k.a. the Kulani Trails) below Quarry Rd. off Stainback Hwy has formally been deemed an official trail system that is legally accessible to bicyclists!

You will be required to carry a permit to ride these trails. It can be acquired for FREE from the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) at 19 E. Kawili St. in Hilo or 66-1220A Lalamilo Rd. in Waimea. Ask for the Lower Waiākea Mountain Bicycle annual permit and trail map. Picking up permits will not only prevent fines, but the more people we have signing up for permits, the better chance we have to keep this good thing going!

Big thanks to the members of the Big Island Mountain Bike Association (BIMBA), Mauna Kea Recreation User’s Group, Chris Graper from the Hawaiʻi State Dept. of Forestry, Dennis Vierra from Nā AlaHele, and Chris Seymour who have been working hard to bring mountain biking on the Big Island to the next level! See you on the trails!

COVID-19 Statement

Letter from Hilo Bike Hub Inc. on Covid-19 (revised 10/3/2020)

Aloha mai e nā cycling fanatics o Hilo,

The health and safety of our customers and staff has always been my #1 priority.  This has never been more important to our company than today. As an "essential business", our store has remained open during these very uncertain times. Our Hawaiʻi Island residents have made major sacrifices such as working from home, childcare, social interaction and social gatherings in the effort to minimize and slow down the spread of Covid-19. And due to our steadfast commitment to our community (mālama kekahi i kekahi), our community has some of the lowest rates and active cases of infection throughout the state. The steps we all have taken since the end of March 2020 have allowed us to remain open to serve our community, and we are so grateful for your support!

  • We are continuing to follow guidelines from the CDC and local government authorities. We are maintaining best practices for sanitation and health safety.
  • Our store hours have been reduced to Monday thru Friday, 9 am until 4 pm. These hours will remain until the emergency proclamation of mandatory face coverings has been removed.
  • All customers must wear a protective face shield when entering our store.
  • For the safety of our staff and clientele, only 3 customers are allowed in the store at one time.
  • We enforce 14 day mandatory quarantine on all out of state and returning residents.
  • All hard surfaces, door handles, bathrooms, phones, computers and countertops are cleaned regularly from business open to business close.
  • We are practicing social distancing amongst staff and customers.  For those looking to reduce contact, please see our convenient shopping options below.
  • All bikes taken on test rides are cleaned after each ride.
  • Bike fitting has been suspended.
  • Any staff member that has any indication of symptoms is to stay home for both their safety as well as the safety of others.

Since more people have been riding bicycles during the mandatory stay-at-home order took in to effect,  and relying on our bicycles for exercise and transportation has been seen in greater numbers all around Hawai'i island. For many people, bikes are an important part of daily life. They are transportation for cycling commuters, and for many other people bikes are a convenient, healthy, and economical way to get around. More than ever, bike shops provide an essential service to the community.

Personally, I am grateful that I can still get outdoors. Riding my bike is my way to deal with stress and get fresh air. We want to make sure you’re still able to get out and ride too. Whether you need new gear or your bike needs service, Hilo Bike Hub has been working extremely hard to keep bicycles and parts available through this time of short supply/heavy demand for bicycles.

Despite the current uncertainty, our staff has stepped up to do whatever is needed. I am so proud of my team. When we started this company over 26 years ago, I could not have imagined the remarkable people who would join me on this ride. I have no doubt our company and community will be stronger because of this.

From the 'ohana  Hilo Bike Hub  to yours, be well.

Naʻu me ka mahalo a me ka haʻahaʻa loa,

Na Chris
